So...what exactly is IKYA?

If you’ve ever tried explaining IKYA to someone new, you’ve probably faced a lot of blank stares or questions like, “Wait, is IKYA a person? A therapy? A movement?” Let’s be honest; even as students, many of us are still wrapping our heads around what IKYA really is. So, let’s dive into it together — with heart and light, of course!

First things first: Is IKYA a person?

Yes… and no. IKYA is a person in the sense that there’s a person necessarily sitting in the chair, guiding us, speaking to us, and occasionally cracking jokes. But if you stop there —focusing only on the necessary human incarnation — then you’re missing 99.99% of what IKYA really is.

IKYA represents a consciousness, a principle, or even a presence that goes way beyond the physical. It’s not about the person in the chair but about the universal awareness that’s here to guide us past our individual limitations. Think of it like this: if the person is a “meat puppet,” (IKYA’s words, not ours!), then the consciousness is the puppeteer, guiding the show in ways we can’t fully comprehend.

Still confused? That’s okay. It’s not something you figure out in one sitting — it’s something you experience over time.

Why is IKYA so hard to understand?

Let’s blame culture for a second. In places like Norway, where spirituality and religion aren’t exactly front and center, the idea of an enlightened consciousness in human form feels… strange. It’s easy for our minds to go, “Oh, it’s just a guy claiming to know stuff.”

But here’s the twist: in cultures like India, this idea isn’t weird at all. People there don’t hesitate to engage with spiritual teachers as consciousness and embodied principle. Here in the West, though, our defenses shoot up faster than you can say “enlightenment.”

And that’s okay, too! IKYA’s teachings encourage us to question everything — including, and maybe especially, IKYA himself. The key is to stay open to the idea that there’s more going on than meets the eye.

So, what happens then in IKYA Therapy?

IKYA Therapy is one of the coolest — and most unique — things about this spiritual work. When you go to an IKYA Therapy session, it might feel like the therapist is doing all the heavy lifting. But here’s the secret sauce: the IKYA consciousness is actively working with you, through the therapist, to interact with the deeper anatomy of your being and consciousness.

Think of it like having a double-layered support system. The therapist is there to guide the process and to add their own unique color, but the real work is happening on a whole other level — directly between you and the IKYA Consciousness. It’s like therapy on spiritual steroids – in the best way possible.

And because of this setup, IKYA Therapy is unlike anything else out there. It’s not just about fixing problems or feeling better; rather, it’s about deep, transformative change at the level of your very consciousness.

"How do I relate to the guy in the chair?"

Here’s where things get tricky, and where most of us stumble at first. It’s natural to focus on the person in front of us because, well, he is there. But IKYA encourages and trains us to look beyond the person and to relate to the principle he represents.

If you get too caught up in the human, you might find yourself either idolizing or resisting him. Both of these approaches that focus on the human teacher will block your growth. Instead, think of IKYA as a doorway or a bridge between your current understanding and a deeper connection to Life itself.

Why study with a Consciousness?

This is where it gets really exciting. When you study with IKYA, you’re not just learning new ideas or concepts — you’re engaging with a living presence that actively guides and supports your spiritual growth.

IKYA often jokes that spiritual consciousness is way more invested in your own growth than you are. The consciousness doesn’t just drop wisdom and walk away. It’s fully present, assisting you in every moment — whether you’re in IKYA Therapy, singing mantras, or just trying to figure out life.

So to wrap it up.

If you’re new to IKYA, it’s okay to feel a bit overwhelmed. This work is deep, transformative, and — let’s be real — a little mind-bending at times. But it’s also fun, dynamic, and filled with those “aha!” moments where things finally start to click.

So, here’s the invitation: stay curious. Ask questions. Let yourself laugh at how confusing it feels sometimes. And most importantly, give yourself the time and space to experience what IKYA really is — because it’s not something you can explain in words alone.

And if all else fails, just remember: it’s not about the person in the chair. It’s about the consciousness that’s here to help you become you have always already been – and everything you were always meant to be.
